Roman church of Our Lady of Asunción

Roman church of Our Lady of Asunción

The name of this church seems to come from the ancient church of Santa María de Pangorres, of which there is documentation dating back to the 9th century, a time in which there were no stable settlements in this part of Pisueña valley. From the mid 12th century it was of great importance. Originally it had one Nave to which the Transept was added. The great Belfry stands by the side of the church and the simple entrance has five arches and a roof supported by cantilevers. In its interior take time to notice the arches and spires under the windows of the Apse.
